Education and Mentorship

Photographers are funny. We often like to spend money on new gear hoping it will make us better, but many of us don’t realize that spending money on education usually results in a much more noticeable improvement in our skill. The best way I have found to learn and to teach is one-on-one. No matter whether you’re new and feeling overwhelmed by all the things there are to know, or more experienced and trying to find some direction, I can help. I provide customized feedback on your work with an experienced eye, helping you emphasize your artistic strengths, and address the areas where you have more room for growth. I can also share a wealth of practical knowledge, teaching you more technical skills, ranging from digital post processing to working with large format field cameras.

Portfolio Review - $50

  • Your choice of recorded video or written text review—read or listen as many times as you like

  • Up to 6 photos reviewed (additional reviews available if needed)

  • Each photo critiqued in depth, with both strengths and opportunities for improvement identified clearly

  • Overall trends in your photographic style discussed

  • Personalized recommendations made for your next steps as a photographer

  • I’m nicer than Gordon Ramsay and Simon Cowell, but I’m not going to shy away from giving you constructive criticism where it’s useful

  • Payment due before delivery of final product

Real-Time Coaching Session - $30/hr

  • Video conference, screen share, sit down to talk or edit with me in person, or let me tag along shooting with you - whatever kind of coaching you’re looking for

  • Ask specific questions, look over photos, learn a new technique, get advice about gear, try your hand at film or darkroom work using my equipment, or do any other photography-related activity you want help with

  • Payment due prior to scheduled coaching date/time
